CouncilHub is a small Sydney team building the resident-facing app most Australian councils have wanted and never had the budget or vendor to ship.
Why we exist
Civic legibility, distributed.
Most council software is sold to procurement. The result is the patchwork: a Facebook page Meta hides, a portal for rates, another for animals, statutory notices in a newspaper few read.
We started CouncilHub because the small infrastructures of municipal life are not minor: bin night, the pothole queue, the DA two doors down, who your councillor is. They are dignity, distributed. No vendor was building them as one trusted thing.
We sit on top of the systems you already run (TechOne, Pathway, Civica, OpenOffice) and put one branded channel between your council and every household in the LGA. Your records of truth stay where they are; the rollout takes weeks.
What we believe
Boring features matter most.
Bin reminders won't win a Webby. They'll keep an app installed for a decade. We build for the second outcome.
Build on what you have.
Your records of truth (TechOne, Pathway, Civica) stay where they are. We add a resident-facing layer to what you already operate.
Trust is the product.
Residents installing a council-branded app are extending trust we have to earn. Privacy, accuracy, restraint, in that order.
Australian-hosted.
Sydney and Melbourne. Resident data stays onshore. We do not negotiate this.
Accessible by default.
WCAG 2.2 AA is the starting point. The most disengaged residents are also the least served by today's council comms.
We're a long game.
Councils make 5–10 year decisions. We build for that horizon: small team, slow burn, real engineering.
